Buying 08 q7
I bought an 08 Q7 S-line about 4 months ago with 45k miles. I made sure I had records of the services that were required. I believe they are important. I also did a lot or research and these models in 08 did not have any specific problems. Prior to the purchase I had the Audi dealer do a 3 hour pre-delivery inspection where they went through all parts of the car, as well as hooking it up the computer to see if there were any faults. There were none. I have driven mine about 8k miles now and have had no problems....it now has 53k miles. I am real happy with it, but my advice is to make sure you have some proof of service and have the Audi dealer do the pre-delivery inspection if you are not buying it from an Audi dealer.
I wouldn't buy the warranty.
Good luck.

If you plan on keeping it for quite a long time, you MAY want to at least look into some type of extended warranty that covers the electronic parts (a Q7 has anywhere from 31-60+ modules communicating on multiple networks through a gateway module................etc). Generally, they are very reliable but can be very expensive to repair if something does fail (the MMI module i.e. control pad, is around $850 plus labor for example). As far as drivetrain, suspension, steering, etc...pretty much bulletproof, long as it is even reasonably maintained. Only real sticking point is, if Q7's do a lot of city driving, the brakes don't last real long. Seen some worn out in as little as 25,000 miles and is another thing thats not inexpensive to have repaired (heavy vehicle + 20" wheels=short brake life).
