Default Buying a TT

Hi all! I'm new to the forum and the world of Audi. I'm looking at picking up a TT and have been checking out quite a few. I have done some searching on here and found the info helpful but was wondering if you guys could give me an opinion on the one I have decided I may pick up.

http://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/1913373623.html

That's a link to the ad. I test drove it for 15-20 minutes tonight and it seems to drive fine. I did notice that it seems like it may have a different exhaust (sounds different than some of the others) and the BOV is much louder than stock so I am assuming aftermarket as well.

It does seem to have an issue with the glovebox (wont stay closed) but I am not too concerned with that as it is an easy fix.

The speedometer tends to stop working and it is past the 6 year recall period. I know this can be pricey to fix.

The last notable thing is that it is a manual top. I don't think this will bother me too much.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

the different exhaust sound and louder diverter valve is probably due to an aftermarket air intake. why didn't you ask when you test drove it?

I did ask and he said he hadn't changed anything on the car. He purchased it at 15,000 miles and just figured no one would have done work by then. He thought it was factory since he had never driven another TT before.

Louli:

could have an aftermarket exhaust system.
As long as it is not a note/tone that is too loud or resonates too much at say 45-60 mph it will not be detrimental.

and the BOV is much louder
look see if the BOV has been changed or just possibly damaged...not a big deal tho...

an issue with the glovebox (wont stay closed) but I am not too concerned with that as it is an easy fix.
It's not an easy fix and the latch assy is not sold separately and the box, i think is over $300.

The speedometer tends to stop working
now heres where the car might be iffy.......are all the pixels in the cluster display working properly? The speedo issue might eventually need a new cluster assy....$600. Most of the 2001 and 2002's have had it replaced.

You might check the top and the rear windo in particular for leaks and separation below the window.

Some options include Bose Concert upgraded audio with 6-disc CD changer, Xenon HID headlights with automatic headlight washers, heated seats, and 17" wheels
these are not options........

How about the rest of the maintenence........other than the timing belt and ancillaries like the pump, serp belt etc that is normally replaced when the t.b. is replaced. Original coil paks? Original plugs? Haldex ever serviced? All undertrays in place? (The big front one and the two rears). Owners manual in the glove box? CARFAX.....see if the car has ever been hit? Cabin air filter ever changed? Fuel filter ever been changed?

And 9300 is top dollar. IF the car shows really nice AND had regular maintenence WITH RECEIPTS and DOCUMENTATION and regular interior maintenece and cleaning it might be worth it. Keep shoppling....check the other TT sites.....a buyers market. Good luck. (p.s. ...I'm not a fan of ragtops....).

Please get your info correct.

This car has some minor issues. Glove box is $900 to fix. Speedometer is $1000 to fix. And the price is top dollar. I would offer around $8500. Yes, its low miles, but it looks to be un-cared for. Most likely the halidex was not changed, and what not. Keep looking.
