Default Clutch slipping 03 Quattro 5spd, need advice

Hey so I have a 2003 A4 Quattro 1.8T with a 5speed.

Under 1/3 - 1/2 throttle the RPMs go screaming up and the speedo stays where its at. I know this is the clutch slipping.

I talked to Audi and they said it also sounds like I may have some hot spots on the flywheel. The stock Dual Mass flywheel is a little over $800 and the OEM clutch kit is about $450 and then tack on another $1100-1200 for labor to fix my problem.

Before I go and spend the money I was wondering if there is some kind of adjustment I can try that I don't know about. Also I see quite a bit of the Solid Flywheels....how do they compare to the Dual? My car is a daily driver.

I seen a centerforce clutch kit with flywheel and all for under $600 and I am wondering if thats the route I should go.

My indie shop told me parts/labor to replace the clutch would be about $900 for the 1.8T. Of course, we ended up with a 3.0 which is probably more expensive. My only experience is with the A6 below and I went stage 2 clutch and LWFW in case I ever upgraded the turbos. Parts were about $1600 with 9 hours labor. Not cheap, but it still shifts great after 100k miles (car now has 188k).

Audi and almost every car to date has self adjusting clutches..... if its slipping there is nothing you can do but replace it.

The dual mass flywheel counters annoying engine vibrations that the driver can feel.
Your dealer is probably over reacting about it getting a hot spot. i'd ask them to show the hotspots before you agree to replace it. Usually you get a vibration from it cause the center bearing race is plastic and cracks.

Ahh I see. Okay so...next question is what clutch to go with and if need be what fly wheel and what are fair prices?

What clutch depends on how much power your car is making or how much power if you plan on changing the turbo, depends on if you want a stock feel/engaging type clutch or if you want something with a stiffer pedal and one that engages lower on the pedal travel.

The nice thing about going with a single mass flywheel is the fact that you lose that annoying rpm hange the dual mass flywheel has.

Well I think this car I am going to keep relatively stock so power wont be an issue, so I think a stock setup might do just fine. So you think I should go with the sold flywheel? Do you have any combo (clutch kit/flywheel) suggestions?
