outer axel boots

RE: outer axel boots
cv boot dont need to be replace that often. just wait untill they are actually damaged. you can buy the kit from autozone for like 60 dollars for both outer and inner. the dealship just recomends it because thats their job to find things wrong with the car while servicing it. theyll tell you drive belt need to be replaced befor they need ect. 30,000 is a little earlie for cv boots to be going out. my boots just busted at 140,000 and the avarage life for em is 60,000. but dont have the dealership do em its just rediculious.
you would need a jack, a vice, bronze punch to seperate the outer axels and take them apart. clean them and regrease them. some torx bits to take the half shafts off. basic tools to take off what ya gotta to get em off. its not hard at all. save yourself some money. make sure to mark where you disassemble the tie rods or control arms to avoid getting an allignment.
get an aftermarket manual and itll show you how to do it.
good luck and dont let the dealerships take advantage.

One thing to note - don't use torx bits on the axle mount bolts (where the axle joins the diff) - they'll strip out. You want triple-square bits (or 12-point bits, pick your name for them). A set of them is around $15 from ECS Tuning. I ordered it and it included 6, 8, 10, and 12mm I believe (the 8mm are the ones for the drive axle bolts).
